SF70 Huts

Handcrafted backcountry icons for your walls

When the NZFS took over deer culling operations in 1956 they went about upgrading the Aotearoa backcountry infrastructure. By the mid 70s they had built over 600 huts, many of them 6 bunk huts in a standard design they called SF70.

Many hunters and trampers have a connection with a certain hut from that era. So we have developed our own standardised system to serve this desire to commemorate such huts.

These slimline huts hang flush with your wall, or stand freely on your shelves, and can be customised in the colour scheme of your special hut. This can include any number of combinations of colours for the walls, roof, chimney and door.

There are 5 commission spaces open for delivery by Christmas 2025

Commissions Process:

1. Choose a backcountry hut that was built in the classic NZ Forest Service SF70 6-bunk design.

Got a favourite hut? Most 6 bunk huts built between 1956-1980 were this design. Check the listing on Hutbagger to see if your hut qualifies.

2. Decide which colour/s you’d like your hut. Would you like to represent the current hut colours or those from a specific decade of the huts life?

3. Choose the Custom Huts option and put your hut name and colours into the shipping notes. We’ll contact you to discuss and confirm before we start building.

4. We’ll put your hut together and ship it to you in the week of 15th December so it arrives by Xmas.

Or choose one of our favourites:
