Kotepato Hut
Waioeka Conservation Area, Bay of Plenty
Built in the summer of 1968, by deer culler Tony Shaw and crew (pictured). Apparently he upgraded the standard NZFS 6-bunk design by adding hinges on the centre bunks so the bottom bunks could be used as benches.
All bunks are now fixed after a spruce up (including an added veranda) by local tramping club, Nga Tapuwae o Taneatua, that saved the hut from removal by DOC. The hut continues to be enjoyed by Ōpōtiki locals and visitors from a far.
Our Mini Hut captures the hut in steel and reclaimed wood, in its original form with the moss green paint job.

$70 from each Kotepato Hut sold during April 2026 goes to Eastern Whio Link for their conservation mahi
