Iron Whare
Kaweka Forest Park, Hawke’s BayIron Whare was built by a local shepherd in the 1870s in the heyday of NZ wool. This simple hut still stands as the earliest Kaweka musterer’s hut.
Sitting at 1000m amongst regenerating beech forest, this two bunk hut is preserved for its historic importance of a time when shepherds went above and beyond for their sheep.
It's not often you find a hut without a chimney that still has loads of character. This quirk and the fact it has no windows made it perfect for this small batch of slightly bigger Mini Huts.
The standout feature of our Iron Whare recreation is the contrasting orange roof cap (with matching base plate) on the speckled green tin roof. The hand carved rimu siding is protected by mini guttering over a galvanised door.
