Running a Line

We have a deep running love affair with the west coast of Te Waipounamu. Niko was born there and was raised nestled amongst the coastal bush of Fox River, near Punakaiki. We take every chance we can to visit.

One site we are always draw back to is the small cluster of historic (and still very well used) baches at Fox River. These tiny baches are crammed in between a dense bush and wild hydrangea covered hill, a massive ocean facing cave and the wild sea front on a narrow stretch of rain soaked, mossy lawn. They are connected to the grid by  haphazard extension cords strung up with whatever was on hand.

This work is our way of running a line back to the bucolic and nostalgic emotions this site inspires. These small triptychs gaze out over the vast harakeke grounds to the wild Tasman sea and ever changing skyscape. Each one embodies a different time; a different resource; a different attitude; all united by a thin orange extension cord.
